On 20 December 2024 the South African Human Rights Commission wrote to the National Commissioner of the SAPS, Lt.Gen Masemola to draw his attention to the fact that the police continue to profile, harass, extort and intimidate the Cannabis community and, more often than not, lock us up in cages for something that is our Constitutional Right – the possession and cultivation of Cannabis within Private Spaces.

After a lengthy meeting with the Commissioner, Prof Madlingozi, and his team on Monday, we are once again putting out a call for EVERYONE to report your traumatic encounters with SAPS in relation to Cannabis – ASAP! We will share these cases with the SAHRC on your behalf. We are mainly looking for cases from the last year but historic cases are also relevant and will go into our main database. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you include the LOCATION of the incident and as much info as possible.
