Our hearts are so heavy since receiving the truly sad news last week that our beloved Dr Carissa Saunderson has passed on.
Our sister in Cannabis, Dr Carissa was a wonderful woman with a heart of gold. From a young age she showed her passion for medicine and healing people, even spending some time in South Sudan working with Doctors Without Borders once qualifying.
She personally experienced the many ways that Cannabis can assist in the fight against cancer, using the Plant in her own epic battle against this horrifying disease. Through her own experiences, our sister sought to help others by assisting with Section 21 Cannabis prescriptions and sound advice.
A fearless fighter to the end, Dr Carissa was incredibly active in using her various platforms to educate people on the Plant. Her presentations were always entertaining and highly informative.
She signed up as a Fields of Green for ALL Affiliate in August 2022, further fulfilling her role as a woman of Cannabis fighting for evidence-based, human rights-based Cannabis policy reform.
Her passing is a massive loss to South African Cannabis as a whole. Our condolences go out to her family, friends, and patients. May her memory live within the hearts of all those who knew her. May her fiya continue to burn bright in the healing and education she brought to so many!
We salute you, our sister in Cannabis!
I am truly saddened by this news, that I’m only seeing now. I wondered where she had gone to…it’s been so quiet. I first met her while she worked at Multicross, she prob had the best bed side manner for a doctor and was cool, funny, calm and collected. She gave sound advice and I was looking to get an appointment with her today. She would have been the perfect person to advise on my sisters cancer status too. MYDSRIP Carrisa, you trailblazer..
