It is now 4 months to The Trial of the Plant and we are excited to announce the latest addition to our legal team. Advocate Chris Carelse had more than 15 years of experience as an attorney before being admitted to the Johannesburg bar in 2013. He completed his pupilage under our principle advocate, Don Mahon – he was the top guy’s apprentice! We are very grateful for Chris’ input, we need all the clever legal minds we can get.
Myrtle and Jules met with the legal team in counsel’s chambers and the room was buzzing with excitement around the upcoming trial. When asked why he has chosen to take on this mammoth & controversial task, his reply echoed the overriding ethos of the case: “I believe that it is every person’s right to have sovereignty over their own body. This is a unique case and we are charting new territory within South African and international law.”
This is called Res Nova – the term is used by courts to describe an issue of law or case that has not previously been decided.
The discussion went on to include the scarily short time we have until the trial. Advocate Mahon assured us that both Schindlers Attorneys and counsel will be ready for March 2016 and strict terms will be set with the opposition to avoid any postponements. A pre-trial conference with the attorneys for the government is set for early December and we will keep everyone updated every step of the way.
We are still being kept very busy juggling the logistics for the best expert witnesses for The Trial of the Plant so please keep sharing our Indiegogo Campaign far and wide. Thank you to those of you who have already donated. To those of you who are still to get around to collaborating, let’s keep the momentum going, click here…!
