ICEERS (International Center for Ethnobotanical Education, Research and Service) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to transforming society’s relationship with psychedelic plants.  ICEERS is one of the many Fields of Green for ALL International Affiliates who do phenomenal work in the Plant Medicine community.

Plant Medicine and the Ego: A Process of Reintegration

Since its inception in 2013, the ICEERS Support Centre has helped over a thousand people who have had negative experiences while using psychoactive medicines such as ayahuasca, San Pedro (huachuma), psilocybin mushrooms, and others. Colombian psychologist David Londoo, the Support Center coordinator, has spent 17 years as a patient and student working with traditional Indigenous medicines. 

Part 1 of a series outlining ideas and perspectives from the Support Centre, this article is an interview with David in which he speaks in depth about the complexities of ego dissolution as related to master plant experiences. He explains why our ego is important and how to have a healthy relationship with it rather than “losing the ego.”
