Greetings Jules and Myrtle
First of all, I’d just like to thank you both for the sacrifices you have made in your war against ignorance and injustice. What you’ve done is truly inspirational, and I wish more people had the balls you have to stick it to the man. I’ve followed your story for quite some time, and I’d like to join you in your fight and offer my knowledge and experiences.
My relationship with the herb has been going on for almost 10 years. It has had a profound effect on my life, and it has helped me change for the better in ways I can’t even begin to enumerate. I’ve converted quite a few people over to our side, and I will espouse the virtues of ganja to anyone with an open enough mind to listen.
In my public life, I am a clinical psychologist, I’ve just completed my internship at Sterkfontein hospital and will be working for the government in community clinics for the next year. My undergrad and honors degrees were awarded cum laude (my masters dissertation is still being marked) and I have lectured a few courses on psychology and psychotherapy at the University of Johannesburg.
During my training, I’ve worked with many different people in many different settings, including a 6 month stint at (***a certain rehab centre) in Joburg (the irony of this is not lost on me). As such, I have inside knowledge as to how cannabis use is perceived and dealt with within the medical profession, and although I try to subvert the ignorance where possible, I’m constantly shocked by the half truths and bold faced lies that are paraded as fact by my colleagues. I’m sure that you constantly encounter the same rhetoric, and this to me is one of the biggest problems facing the fight for legalization.
I saw your interview on Dagbreek, where you said you were bringing in expert witnesses from overseas to help with your case at the constitutional court, and while I don’t think my credentials necessarily make me an expert on anything I was hoping that I could be of some service to you in any way possible. I’d really like to be able to share some of what I’ve seen in my line of work, as well as my experience as someone who contradicts the stereotype of the dumb stoner. If there’s anything I can do, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
