I recently read an article with regards to changing the name of the “Dagga Couple” and your response being how it didn’t suit your liking. If the main objective is to legalize weed then should we not want to get it out to the public? Never mind the people that smoke weed, they will support the cause despite its name but there are fewer people that smoke weed compared to the people that dont smoke weed. A great amount of support would be more beneficial to the case of legalizing cannabis. Yes, having the support of all the cannabis smokers and building up their confidence to tell the truth would be great but would it not be even greater to have the support of those that don’t currently smoke weed? We could stand a chance of losing all that because of a simple word.
We must all remember that what you guys are doing is a great thing that involves the support of South African citizens. If we could reach out and gain acceptance from the people that don’t smoke this wonderful plant then would we not be changing the mistaken image of our people? I personally know people that are shy or embarrassed to use the word dagga because it does not go well with the way they speak, using the word becomes not only embarrassing for them but the person listening to them use the word. This is not one person but many people. People who we could use in this cause. Why look for the support of supporters? People hear the word Dagga and they immediately switch off because of all the bad things that have involved the word in South Africa. I personally think the media has given you this name not to support your cause but to put you in a light to the people that doesn’t stick well with them. Its the detail in a big thing that people appreciate without even realizing it at times.
I sincerely hope that you consider and think about this message, i am not sending it for my personal opinion because i use any word that people understand but i send this message to you because we/you need all the support and acceptance that we/you can get. If the names you have come up with don’t stick with your liking, look to where you need your support from, the public. Ask them for suggestions, we are all glad or honored to help where we can. This cause is bigger than us all, it can create opportunities beyond our imagination. Asking suggestions from the public also puts you in a light where you show that the public’s say matters to you.
Yours truly and honestly sincerely,
