On 20 December 2024 the South African Human Rights Commission wrote to the National Commissioner of the SAPS, Lt.Gen Masemola to draw his attention to the fact that the police continue to profile, harass, extort and intimidate the Cannabis community and, more often than not, lock us up in cages for something that is our Constitutional Right - the possession and cultivation of Cannabis within Private Spaces.
We were devastated to hear of the untimely death of the captain of our ship for The Trial of the Plant, Maurice Crespi, on 16 January 2025 . A brilliant legal mind who steered the ship at HBGSchindlers Attorneys and gave us our first big legal break back in 2013.

The 19th February 2025 will mark 100 years of Global Cannabis Prohibition. The Cannabis Embassy, together with Fields of Green for ALL, will be sharing various themed online and international events to celebrate not only the Centenary of Prohibition, but also how much has changed in recent years to move away from Hard Prohibition towards more Human Rights and Evidence based policies and regulation globally.
As amicus curiae in the matter, Fields of Green for ALL has received notice of the appellants withdrawal of their appeal in the Supreme Court of Appeal in Bloemfontein.
Last week we gathered at the University of Cape Town to wrap up the Cannabis Africana project. A collaboration between the Universities of Bristol and Cape Town - departments of Criminology and Policy Studies - this was a research project looking into “Drugs and Development in Africa”, with particular emphasis on Cannabis.
We are very pleased to let our community know that we have received a reply from the government after we sent a letter requesting updates on the status quo with the National Cannabis Masterplan Steering Committee’s work.
