Overcoming Barriers to Entry in Cannabis and Hemp Industries:
Views from Around the World

The ASTM Committee D37 on Cannabis invites experts to submit abstracts and sponsors to contribute to an exciting new angle on our original idea to host an in-person conference in Cape Town. The conference will now take the form of a series of video presentations and an online conference, featuring experts selected from abstracts submitted from around the world.

We look forward to both South Africans and our international allies showing up to contribute expertise and resources to this international event. Here is a chance for our voices to be heard and for the brands contributing to the development of the Cannabis “Sunrise” Sectors to achieve international exposure.

Important info for abstracts and sponsorships HERE. Deadline for abstracts is 30 November.

Fields of Green for ALL has been involved with the coordinating committee for this event for many months and we have learned so much about the crucial areas in which the D37 Committee works. ASTM International is a globally recognized leader in the development and delivery of voluntary consensus standards. Today, over 12,000 ASTM standards are used around the world to improve product quality, enhance health and safety, strengthen market access and trade, and build consumer confidence.

The Conference Themes speak for themselves:

  1. Recognizing Historical Marginalization and Inequities in Cannabis and Hemp (learning from the mistakes of the past)
  2. Cannabis and Hemp War Stories – Legacy, Indigenous, Women, People of Color, & Other Disenfranchised Stakeholders (learning from the mistakes of the present)
  3. Identifying Barriers to Entry in Cannabis and Hemp – Treaties, Prejudices, Misunderstandings, Cannabinoids, Lack of Standards Acceptance, etc. (what’s in the way)
  4. Philosophies for Overcoming Barriers to Entry in Cannabis and Hemp (DEI, land rights, terroirs, appellations, social equity, and other ideas)
  5. Actions to Take to Overcome Barriers to Entry in Cannabis and Hemp (awareness of steps people can take now – engaging with SDOs, NGOs, etc.)
  6. Tools to Use to Overcome Barriers to Entry in Cannabis and Hemp (i.e. standards)

Looking forward to our supporters’ contributions!
